Assalamoalaikum,

Hope you are fine.

One of my cousin have a loan of around 30k USD and he is paying approximately 1000 USD every month as installement. He had taken money from his relatives on various credit cards and the average APR is 27% which is quite high and hence even after making payment of 1000 USD everymonth my cousin is not able to reduce his debt by any significant amount. He has been paying 1000 USD every month since past 10 years !!! and there is no hope for paying back all his debts in full any time soon.

I wanted to know if it is ok to take a loan in my name at lower APR say around 10%-15% and help my cousing pay back his loans and he would be paying 1000 USd everymonth towards paying loan which is in my name.
This may sound logical to US residents but does ISLAM allows us to take loan on interest to payback somebody else''s loan?

My cousin has 3 kids and desperately needs a helping hand to reduce his debts.

If I decide to pay out of pocket then I won''t be able to pay more than 4-5k USD within a year.

Please let me know your views and how we can help someone trapped in this situation.

Jazak Allah
